‘Great Grandad Colouring Up’ became my FUNdraising Theme

My name is Mike Finch, I am 77 years of age and a Lymington resident for approaching 50 years. Presently at home with my Wife under the current Covid 19 restrictions and the realisation of the huge needs of the NHS really hit home with me.

It was the Staff at our much-loved Lymington Hospital that came to mind – together with the Oakhaven Hospice in Lymington which is really being hit hard by the lack of fundraising activity at this time.

Over the past 40 years I have seen our amazing Hospital grow from a small Cottage Hospital in the centre of the town to where it is today and I also remember the original Hospice being built in the grounds of the Coates’ family home in Lower Pennington – I was actually the Surveyor/Estimator involved in the original construction.

It was for this reason that I felt I had to do something in my own small way to help the Staff at these two invaluable establishments, so I had the idea of raising the Sum of £2,000.00 and to culminate this with ‘Great Grandad Colouring Up’ – dyeing my hair and beard – blue for the NHS and green for Oakhaven – and moustache the colours of the rainbow!

I have been so encouraged with the amazing support I have had from so many local people raising a Total of £2,400.00 – which will be split between the Lymington Hospital Friends and Oakhaven Hospice.
